Under wraps for nearly two months, the Giant Pandas Er Shun and Da Mao, who arrived from China on March 25,2013, and after being quarantined , the black-and-white duo having taken to life in their new habitation, made their debut for the general public last weekend.

Over 15,000 people were expected to flood into the Toronto Zoo on last Saturday, and they had to queued up for estimated 45 minutes waiting. A growing crowd craned their necks and jockeyed for a better position in order to get a good a look to closer-watching the pairs of bamboo-eating bears. At first, people could only catch a glimpse of a pair of small black ears, barely visible behind a pile of rocks. Then Da Mao, a four-year-old male, facing the crowd of “People mountain people sea” outside his enclosure, decided to give a thrill, he staggered out of his place, climbed up over the rocks, and hunkered down in front of a pile of bamboo. He shredded bamboo with ease and gnawed at it as if no one else nearby, like an experienced super star. Then he laid down enjoying his sun-tanning. His action cued intensive flashbulbs, oohs and aahs, then a round of cheers.

Lots of kids with their parents were excited to see the new arrivals at the zoo, they came from the city and the whole GTA areas, even came from as far as the Niagara and Hamilton. Unfortunately, most of the first exhibition time, the pairs of Panda enjoyed their sleep. “The girl was sleeping and the boy was sleeping too.” a disappointed Hamilton boy said.

The zoo encourages people to get a zoo membership in order to observe the pandas fully. “You never anticipate what the pandas will be doing when you swing by to see them.” The Toronto Zoo spokesman said, “The Zoo membership will help people get the most out of the exhibit and come back too see them a few times, That is the zoo pitch.”

The pandas are on loan from the Chinese government and the zoo is scheduled to play host to them until 2018. then they will be sent to the Calgary Zoo for another five years. The pandas will go back home at last.
