The Spring’s Visions

Spring, one of 4 seasons in a year, occupies a peculiar position in human emotions. For many thousands of years spring was one of the times most looked-forward-to, and with the least negative connotations. From ancient times to the present, people celebrate the arrival of spring with numerous ceremonies. It is impossible to know exactly today when our ancestors started the spring’s fetes, but from reading the historical documents or listening to folk tales handed down by word of mouth from one generation to another , detailed rituals, celebrations and related social activities must be extremely ancient. Spring is the starting season of a year, it means a new life, a new begining and a new hope. It has always been enormously important  to the welfare of peoples, because it is a season for sowing. A seed is sowed, and a hope is planted(撒下一粒种子,播种一个希望). There are many proverbs relating to the spring season, for example: “The whole year’s work depends on a good start in spring(一年之计在于春)”, ” Season waits for no man, Spring’s value is greater than gold(季节不等人,春日胜黄金)” ,etc. Early planning and preparation in spring means “a good begining is half done(良好的开端是成功的一半)”。

Not only have people been placing hope on spring, all living things have also been starting their new lifecycles. With chilly winter being gone, spring revives all things and breeds new lives in nature. Taking a look at your surroundings, new buds on tree branches are getting ready to burst, yellow lawns are turning green, and tulips are growing brightly-colored cup-shaped flowers in April. The same with animals, columns of wild geese are seen flying from south to north, their honk are echoing in the sky. Swallows are carrying bits of earth in their bills to build nests under the eaves and are twittering around the yards. Wild ducks are swimming in pairs in the ponds, they know first when the rivers become warm in spring(春江水暖鸭先知). All these are foretelling the arrival of flowers blooming(百花争艳), birds singing(燕语莺啼)and gardens overflowing with the beauties of springtime(满园春色).
Spring is not just the time for the recovery and renewal of nature, it is the time for the activity and germination of people’s thoughts as well. With witer dresses being taken off and the under blowing of gentle and warm spring breezes, people’s emotions and thoughts become more active. Reading the articles and poems in the group of the Literary Association of China’s United Universities in Canada, you would face the oncoming enthusiasm directly. To these literary friends spring, as such, is a spontaneous act to eulogize nature and is probably not even recognized as a painstaking thing at all.
Spring is also the season for sports. People actively take part in all kinds of sports everywhere such as jogging, swimming, hiking and playing ball etc. Just as an old saying goes: Make your whole year’s plans in spring, and your day’s plan in the morning(一年之计在于春,一日之计在于晨). Take a walk or a run every warm morning to get energy levels up. Workout in gyms or swim in pools to burn extra fat and to strengthen muscles. Hike outdoors on weekends to enjoy the fun of outdoor activities. Life lies in motion(生命在于运动), and spring is the best time for activities.
Definitely the closer spring comes, the more aspirations we have, and the less complaints we have about cold weather. Everyone comes unconsciously on an amazing spring beauty, and few people feel uncomfortable pollen allergies in spring, becasue spring is the season full of hope. When our ancestors, living about 4714 years ago, discovered the lunar calendar, the traditional Chinese calendar, and set up the 24 Solar Terms conveniently for farming, from then on, People arranged their agriculture strictly according to this calendar, rather than farming randomly. This has created great leaps in agricultural production. Therefore, as the first Solar Termthe Beginning of Spring(立春) is regarded as the most important term by Chinese folks. Spring has been deemed a special season by a great many of articles and poems throughout history and throught the world.

The winter is gone, and the spring is on the way.
Let’s fully enjoy the bright and beautiful spring time!
